The Government Archaeological Museum of Bhopal is situated near the lower lake and boasts of one of the best collections of sculptures collected from various parts of the state. The state of Madhya Pradesh lies in the centre of India, is rich in cultural heritage and has plenty of important wildlife reserves and parks. |
| On a visit to the museum one get a complete package of the rich traditions prevalent in the state. The main attractions at the archeological museum includes various paintings of schools, statues of the Hindu Goddess of Wealth Lakshmi, copies of paintings from the Bagh caves at Mandu and also the idols of Buddha. This museum also exhibits the paintings of the Hindu Holy Trinity of Creator-Preserver-Destroyer of the Universe, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Other important attractions at this museum are the images of Shiva seated with his wife Parvati and a fine piece of carving in stone of an amorous couple brought from Khajuraho which is home of erotic sculptures and paintings. The museum also exhibits around 87 Jain bronzes dating back to the 12th century Paramara Dynasty which were unearthed from a single site in Dhar. This museum is the best place, depicting the enriching history of the state and is open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm except on Mondays and Government holidays. |
