The Jama Masjid of Bhopal is centrally located in the main market area which is also famous as “chowk bazaar”. This mosque was built in the year 1837 by the erstwhile ruler of Bhopal Her Majesty Qudsiya Begum. Jama Masjid is smaller in size when compared to the Taj-ul-Masajid but still finds place amongst the historical Islamic monuments of Bhopal. |
| Access to the mosque is through the narrow and busy by lanes of the main market area.This monument finds place amongst the most frequented places by tourists and worshippers from across the world. The structure of the mosque is elevated from the ground level and access to the mosque is from the staircases on three sides. This mosque boasts of two towering minarets with gold spikes crowning and three bulbous cupolas which are easily visible from various parts of the city. Like most of the monuments this mosque is also crafted in red stone having beautiful arches and plush interiors with loads on carvings on it. Overall this mosque reminds the splendid past of Islamic architecture which was prevalent through out the historical city of Bhopal. The interior of the mosque is built out of sparkling white marble and there is a series of beautifully crafted white columned arches. The Jama Masjid complex also contains a small pond used by worshippers for performing ablution. |
