» Laxmi Narayan Temple – The Hindu Goddess of Wealth

Laxmi Narayan Temple The famous Laxmi Narayan Temple of Bhopal is located to the south of the Lower Lake on Arera Hills. This temple is also known as Birla Temple as it was built by the Birla’s, one of the leading industrial groups of India. The temple is placed on a hill top from where one can have a glimpse of the beautiful city of Bhopal.
Due to the hilly location of the temple, it can easily be seen from far away places within the city. This temple is built in honor of the Hindu Goddess of wealth, Laxmi and her divine consort, Vishnu, the Preserver of the Universe, who is also known as Narayan. The temple complex also houses a splendid idol of a reclining Shiva with his wife Parvati.

Within the temple complex is the famous Birla Museum which boasts of a wonderful collection of sculptures from various districts of Madhya Pradesh including Mandsaur, Shahdol, Sehore and Raisen. The collection at the museum dates back to the 12th century which was the progressive era of the Paramaras in which art and culture was prevalent and flourished in the state. Speaking about the Birla Temple, it is a sandy-yellowish building with a high tower on the side which is visible from far away places. To gain entry to the temple one has to pass through the wonderful archway and arrive at the expansive green lawns within the temple complex. There are various modes of transportations within the city to reach Laxmi Narayan Temple like buses, taxis and autos which ply on regular basis.
