Regional Museum of Natural History The Regional Museum of Natural History was established in 1997 and is located in the Shah Pura area of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. This regional museum was designed to exhibit various specimens relating to natural history and to highlight the flora and fauna, natural
resources of the area, protection of ecosystems and to highlight the need for environmental awareness.

The idea of establishing NMNH goes to the late Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi who considered forming new projects in 1972 to mark the 25th anniversary of Indian Independence. The NMNH has conducts a variety of educational programs and brought out a large number of interesting and popular literatures.

The objectives of forming the NMNH at Bhopal are to:

  1. Develop exhibits depicting the flora fauna and geology of the region.

  2. Depict ecological relationships among plants and animals including man, and emphasize the importance of conservation exhibits and educational activities.

  3. Provide special exhibits and activities to enrich the school curriculum in Biology, particularly on environment aspects.

  4. Develop appropriate educational programs for children, adults and family groups to create environments awareness

  5. Publish popular educational material useful for environmental education.

  6. Develop appropriate institutional material within the Region to promote environment education.
