Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya also known as the National Museum of Mankind is located on the Shamla Hills in Bhopal. This museum was established in the year 1974 and lately it has been renamed as Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya. |
| This museum is one of its own kinds in the whole world, attracting lots of tourists and guests who come here to have a glimpse of a huge and rare collection of tribal and folk arts from all over India. This museum is spread around an area of 200 acres and is being maintained by the folk and tribal communities. There are numerous tourist attractions at this place which highlights the cultural diversity and religion of India's Adivasi tribes. One of these attractions includes a reconstructed village which replicates a coastal village with the famous snake boat of Kerala. Besides this the museum also exhibits a desert village from Rajasthan and a village from the Himalayas. On the vast lands of the museum you will also come across various types of medicinal plants which are planted to depict their use by the tribal’s in curing various diseases. The museum also houses different types of anthropological and ethnographic objects. There is a library within the museum which has an audio-visual archive and a computerized documentation system. The museum is open to visitors on all days of a week from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm during the summers and from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm during the winter season. |
