| Bhopal is the capital city of Madhya Pradesh and is famously known as “The City of Lakes”. The beautiful city of Bhopal was founded in the 11th century by Raja Bhoj and was formerly known as Bhojpal. Later on this city was developed by Dost Mohammed Khan an Afghan Chief. At the time of the British rule in India, Bhopal was a princely state ruled by the Begums of Bhopal. During the rule of the Begums, many religious monuments were built, of this Taj-ul-Masajid, Moti Masjid and Jama Masjid are the prominent ones. This place also has the magnificent Laxmi Narayan Temple also known as the Birla Temple. Taj-ul-Masajid: Taj-ul-Masajid is regarded as one of the largest and most impressive mosque in central India. This mosque is one of the top landmark sites of Bhopal, located in the heart of the city. The building of this mosque was initiated by Shahjehan Begum of Bhopal when she became the ruler in 1868. Moti Masjid: Moti Masjid is placed close to the upper lake in the heart of the beautiful and historical city of Bhopal. This mosque was built in 1860 by Sikander Begum of Bhopal who is sill regarded as one of the most significant characters in the history of Muslim women in India. Jama Masjid: The Jama Masjid of Bhopal is centrally located in the main market area which is also famous as “chowk bazaar”. This mosque was built in the year 1837 by the erstwhile ruler of Bhopal Her Majesty Qudsiya Begum. Laxmi Narayan Temple: The famous Laxmi Narayan Temple of Bhopal is located to the south of the Lower Lake on Arera Hills. This temple is also known as Birla Temple as it was built by the Birla’s, one of the leading industrial groups of India. |
