Spread over a vast area of 445 hectors of land on a majestic hillock; the Van Vihar National Park is situated in the heart of Bhopal city. The Van Vihar is developed and managed as a modern Zoological Park, following the guidelines of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA). Van Vihar was established in the year 1979 and was declared as National Park on 26th January 1983. An oasis of greenery, this national park houses a variety of herbivorous and carnivorous species in their natural habitat. There are 207 species of birds, 60 species of butterflies and various animals such as the Tiger, Leopard, pythons, crocodiles, bears, alligators, pythons and hyena. Van Vihar is more of a zoo than a national park. Van Vihar is unique because it allows easy access to the visitors through a road passing through the park. Eth park officials and keepers have made necessary arrangements to provide best security to animals from poachers by building trenches and walls, the park has also provided natural habitat to the animals. Also known as Safari Park, Van Vihar lies on a hill near the Upper Lake, with an area of about 4 sq km. The park is open to the visitors from 7:00 to 11.00 hrs and 15:00 to 17:00 hrs. It is closed on Tuesdays. The best time to visit the park is from July to September. The admission fees for Indian / foreigner is Rs 15/200, camera/video Rs 40/300, auto rickshaw / car Rs 20/40. |
